Aspiring Engineering Scholarship 2009

The Professional Engineers Ontario Scarborough Chapter (PEOSC) successfully launched its first Aspiring Engineering Scholarship 2009 program this summer.

The scholarship is awarded to high school students who gained entrance to an engineering program in September 2009. The scholarship sub-committee received an overwhelming response from many well deserving students.

All the applications were evaluated based on the academic performance, extra curricular activities and a short essay. Based on the first screening, six candidates (three males and three females) were invited for an interview. We are glad to inform that the Aspiring Engineer Scholarship for the year 2009 will be awarded to :

-Sreemoyee Chakraborty - East York Collegiate Institute

-Yiyang Shen - R.H King Academy

The scholarship amount ($500.00) will be awarded to each student at an exclusive PEOSC Certificate presentation ceremony, planned on December 1st 2009, along with new licensees. Their parents will also be invited for the event.

To encourage the other participants, the PEO Scarborough Chapter has contributed an additional amount to the scholarship fund to be given as consolation scholarship.

We are glad to inform that we have selected ten students for recipients for this consolation scholarship. The scholarship amount $100.00 each, will also be awarded at the exclusive ceremony on December 1, 2009.

What the awardees say about the Aspiring Engineering Scholarship 2009 program:

"I feel that the scholarship program of the PEO Scarborough Chapter is a great way to recognize those who want to become engineers. It gives us students the platform and the opportunity to pursue a post-secondary education in such a demanding and highly-competitive field. As it is, education in the engineering field is very expensive and this scholarship helps to lessen that financial strain so that students can wholly focus on their studies during the span of their course."

Being awarded the Aspiring Engineer Scholarship is absolutely a dream come true. By awarding me this scholarship, the Professional Engineers Ontario Scarborough Chapter has given me the opportunity to not only focus more on my education by relieving me of some financial burdens, but has also given me a taste of what the professional engineering experience has to offer. I’m certain that, with this boost, I will have the confidence and inspiration to reach all of my engineering goals. Similarly, I’m certain that this scholarship will offer the same type of gratification to all future recipients. Great thanks to all of the amazing people behind this organization and good luck to all of the future candidates!
